Baby mobile

My sister in law is pregnant and I wanted to give her something self made. A while ago my brother and his girlfirend gave me a book with felt animal patterns for my birthday. I thought it might be cute to make a mobile with the felt animals. So I did, and this is the result:

I gave it to her yesterday and she opened the present in the garden while the sun was shining. The effect of the sun on the little mirrors was amazing. To bad I forgot to take a picture...

Easy sunday veggie toast burgers

It's sunday, you're hungry, you're a vegetarian and you don't want to go to the grocery store. You probably have some bread or toast in the house. And as a vegetarian you probably have a veggie burger in the fridge or freezer. And sauces, everybody has sauces in their fridge right?

It realy doesn't get easier than this. Cook the veggie burgers, toast the bread and put on you're favorite sauce. We still had some crispy onions and it goes perfect with the burgers.

Easy sunday food, it's the best!

Happy B-day mom

So, my mom lives in France, it's like a 10 hour drive from Brussels. Since it was her birthday a few days ago I sent her a package full of things I thought she'd might like. I made a good guess because she posted on Facebook how happy she was :-)

In case you need some inspiration for a birthday gift for your mom, here's what was in it:

- Pocket diary from HEMA
- A magazine that she always bought when she lived in Belgium
- A golden faux leather keychain I made myself (moms love DIY presents)
- 2 pair of earrings
- Some cute paper napkins
- A felt coaster

Strawberry cake

This is a cake I made for my moms birthday in 2014. It was so yummy that I have to share the recipe with you.

5 eggs
200g butter ( 7.0548oz)
200g sugar ( 7.0548oz) some extra sugar for the coulis ( about 100g, 3.5274oz)
200g flower ( 7.0548oz)
10g baking powder ( 0.35274oz)

10g vanilla sugar ( 0.35274oz)
500g mascarpone ( 17.637oz)

500g strawberries ( 17.637oz)
250g raspberries ( 8.8185oz)
125g red currants ( 4.4092oz)
About 40g powdered sugar, depends on how sweet you want the mascarpone  (1.4110oz)

1 lemon
4 tbsp milk

Basically the cake has two cake parts, two layers of mascarpone, one layer of red fruit coulis and 2 layers of fruit.

For the cake parts: Mix the sugar, flower, baking powder and vanilla sugar all together in one big bowl. Melt butter in the microwave (defrost level) until liquid. Mix the butter with the rest in the big bowl. Add 4 tbsp of milk. Split the egg yolk from the egg white. Mix the egg yolk with the batter in the big bowl and whip the egg white in an other bowl until white and firm. When firm, mix very kindly with the batter. Split the batter in two and put each part in the oven in a round tin at 175°C (347 °F) for about 30 min. Put aside to cool down.

Red fruit coulis: Cut the lemon in two and squeeze the juice of one piece in a blender. Put about 10 to 15 strawberries, 10 to 15 raspberries and a hand full of red currants in the blender. Mix until liquid. Taste to see how much sugar you want in it. Put aside.

For the mascarpone: Mix the mascarpone with the powdered sugar in a big bowl. Squeeze the other part of the lemon juice and mix with the mascarpone. Mix a little bit of the red fruit coulis with the mascarpone to make it a little bit pink and to give it a little bit of red fruit flavour. About 3 tablespoons. It's best to taste. Put aside.

Cut the rest of the strawberries into pieces to decorate the cake.
Raspberries and red currants remain whole.

Steps to build the cake:

1. Put one part of cake on a big plate
2. Spread a big part of the mascarpone on the part of the cake (Keep some mascarpone for the top layer)
3. Put coulis on the layer of mascarpone

4. Put some strawberries, raspberries and red currants on the coulis (Keep most for top the layer)
5. Put the other part of cake on the first layer of cake, mascarpone, coulis and fruit and press gently
6. Spread the rest of the mascarpone on the top layer (smoothen it out)
7. Decorate the cake with the rest of the fruit any way you want

Here's my mom blowing the candles :-)

The year people inspired me

A whole year of practicing my inspirations passed by. I went through a few tutorials, created stuff I came up with myself and took sewing classes. Here are some pics of the result.
